There are also facade polystyrene with greater compressive strength, used to insulate high buildings where the wind pressure can crush the insulation.
Floor polystyrene is materials with increased resistance to compression and bending, used for insulation under floor screeds, under a dry screed, for roof insulation, for the production of polystyrene foam as well as for cutting out fittings and slate for construction, decorative or protective purposes. Sometimes used as thermal insulation in buildings exposed to vandalism (in tandem with double reinforced mesh and silicone plaster).
Garage polystyrene is a very hard, dense expanded polystyrene used wherever the highest compressive and bending strength possible to obtain from polystyrene is required. Foundation polystyrene is a specialized polystyrene with the addition of hydrophobic agents reducing water absorption. They are used for thermal insulation of building foundations, underground parts of tanks, pillars and other objects located in moist ground. The lagging for pipes to be buried into the ground is also cut from the foundation polystyrene.
XPS extruded polystyrene is a very hard thermal insulation material obtained in the process of injection into the mold, less absorbent than ordinary polystyrene. It is used wherever insulation is affected by high compressive loads or where the insulation will be in constant contact with water. Very high water resistance makes it possible to use it even at a depth of 3.5 m. with constant water pressure. XPS are also widely used in the advertising industry to make shapes, letters and symbols.
Acoustic polystyrene is a soft and flexible polystyrene with a low dynamic stiffness coefficient SD used as an acoustic insulation against impact sounds in "floating floor" systems. It can also be used as thermal insulation for ceilings above unheated rooms.
